Military mom discusses transition from combat to collegeJan. 30, 2009 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University graduate Joyce Vaughan will speak Thursday, Feb. 5, on campus about understanding the needs of returning military students. The free and open event, "Reintegration and Higher Education Through the Eyes of a Military Mom," will be at 3:30 p.m. in the Multicultural Center of the Trimpe Building. As a graduate of WMU with a master's degree in students affairs, former student affairs professional and mother of a student who was deployed, Vaughan will give her perspective on the transition process for combat service members as they return to higher education. She will speak about her work at the Military Family Research Institute at Purdue University, her experiences traveling around the country to meet returning veteran groups and practices at other schools. The event is sponsored by Graduate Students and Professionals in Student Affairs and the Advocacy Office for Transfer Students and Military Affairs.
