Top students vie in Concerto CompetitionFeb. 2, 2009 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's top music students will take center stage in the final round of this year's Concerto Competition at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. There is no admission charge, and the public is invited to attend competition performances. WMU School of Music students were competitively selected for the final round from five performance areas--string, woodwind, brass/percussion, vocal and keyboard. Finalists will vie for the opportunity to perform solo with the University Symphony Orchestra later this spring. Judges for the 2009 Concerto Competition Finals are Abhijit Sengupta, artistic director and CEO of Fontana Chamber Arts; James Turner, music director of the Kalamazoo Bach Festival and music professor at Kalamazoo College; and Christopher Kantner, principal flutist of the Grand Rapids Symphony.
