Food and snacks sought for deployed BroncosFeb. 9, 2009 KALAMAZOO--Food and snack items are being sought to stock another round of military-related care packages that Western Michigan University will be sending out later this month. The volunteer committee that was formed to keep the packages flowing is asking that items be delivered to the Registrar's Office in care of Brenda Hamlyn by Wednesday, Feb. 18. The packages will be sent to WMU students, alumni, and faculty and staff members who are deployed in the military. The mailings may include former students and employees, as well as family members of deployed employees. Gerry Schma, Advocacy Office for Transfer Students and Military Affairs, says that with the exception of food and snack items, the care package project received most of the supplies it needed for 2008-09 from donations made at this fall's Veterans Day football game. But while only selected supplies are being requested at this time, Schma notes that the committee is soliciting mailing list information and also is in need of additional volunteers. Those volunteering must be willing to meet four times a year on a Tuesday night for about two hours. To have members of the WMU community added to the care package mailing list, provide their addresses to Schma at geraldine.schma@wmich.edu or (269) 387-0742.
