KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University will act as host when the Michigan House Appropriations Subcommittee on Higher Education holds a public hearing from 10 a.m. to noon Monday, Feb. 23, in Room 2008 of the Richmond Center for Visual Arts.

WMU President John M. Dunn will testify at the hearing, along with Ferris State University President David L. Eisler and leaders of Michigan State University's Cooperative Extension Service and Agriculture Experiment Station.

The hearing, which is open to the public, is one of five hearings being held at locations around the state as the Michigan Legislature begins the budget process for fiscal year 2010. Other hearings will take place at Eastern Michigan University, Grand Valley State University and at the State Capitol.

Leading the 10-member subcommittee this year is Rep. Joan Bauer, a former educator and WMU alumna. She represents Michigan's 68th District, which includes much of the city of Lansing as well as Lansing Township.
