Faculty brass quintet offers concert of contrasts

March 17, 2009

KALAMAZOO--The famed Western Brass Quintet will provide an evening of musical contrasts in free a concert at 8:15 p.m. Monday, March 23, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall at Western Michigan University.

The ultra-short "Mini Overture" by Witold Lutoslavski will be juxtaposed with lush madrigals by Claudio Monteverdi. Bruce Adolphe's quasi French film music work "Triskellion" will be contrasted with David Snow's "Dance Movements," which features each instrument in duet cadenzas. Ending with Joseph Blaha's outrageous "Broken Down Band," the concert promises an exciting and memorable listening experience.
