Ed Deeb, the association's president and chief executive officer, and Lou Vescio, president of L.P. Vescio Co. and chairman of the association's board of directors, will present the award on behalf of the organization, which represents over 21,000 businesses employing more than 160,000 people. "We are recognizing Frank Gambino for the distinguished service he has provided to the Food and Consumer Package Goods Program, Western Michigan University and Michigan's food industry," Deeb says. "Frank has done an extraordinary job in managing and growing the WMU Food Marketing Program. He and his team have attracted top people in the food industry to appear at the annual Food Marketing Conference on a regular basis. He has shown outstanding leadership in the growth of the program and has helped to assure the growth and integrity of it for both the industry and for the students at WMU. It is appropriate that he receive this high honor from the food industry during the 44th Annual Food Marketing Conference at the same time the 50th anniversary of the Food and Consumer Package Goods Program is being observed." Deeb added that Gambino exceeds the award criteria, which is designed to recognize one who has been in the food distribution, food service or institutional food industry for at least 20 years and is able to motivate people. "The recipient must also demonstrate the ability to help grow an organization and must be respected by his or her peers in the industry," Deeb adds.
