Animated film observes effects of war

April 10, 2009

KALAMAZOO--Kalamazoo Film Society presents "Waltz with Bashir," a 2009 Academy Award nominee for Best Foreign Language Film, Friday through Sunday, April 17-19, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University.

Show times are 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday; 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30 and 5 p.m. Sunday. Admission is $5 and $3 for students.

Many years after the First Lebanon War, an Israeli veteran interviews friends and fellow soldiers to discover the truth about the event--and himself. The result is an animated documentary that takes a painful and unflinching look at the short- and long-term effects of war.

Written and directed by Ari Folman, the 2008 film is shown in Hebrew, German, English and Arabic with English subtitles. It has a run time of 90 minutes and is rated R for disturbing images, strong violence, brief nudity and graphic sexual content.

The Little Theatre is located at the corner of Oakland Drive and Oliver Lane on WMU's East Campus. Free off-street parking is available behind the theatre.
