Friday is registration deadline for WMU Day

KALAMAZOO--Friday, May 8, is the final day to register for WMU Day at the Capitol and be guaranteed a WMU T-shirt, optional bus transportation from Kalamazoo and box lunch, all free of charge.

More than 600 students, alumni, staff, faculty and friends of the University have already registered--about 100 more than had registered at this time one year ago for the first WMU Day.

WMU Day at the Capitol is Wednesday, May 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the front lawn of the state Capitol in Lansing. It will feature interactive and hands-on exhibits and a live vocal performance showcasing the talents and success of WMU students, faculty and staff.

More than 30 exhibits and activities are planned for the day. Some highlights are offered below.

  • Music theatre student performances on the steps of the Capitol building
  • 2004 hybrid vehicle converted to a plug-in hybrid that goes 40 miles before using any gasoline
  • Flexible electronic circuitry printed on paper
  • Geological core samples for carbon sequestration
  • Tour the Capitol building
  • Unmanned aerial vehicle and advanced UAV technology
  • Biofeedback technology
  • Fashion design by MODA students
  • Cirrus SR22 aircraft like the ones used by Sky Broncos
  • Formula race car built by SAE students
  • Cheer contest, Fight Song and Alma Mater
  • Fort St. Joseph archeological artifacts
  • Blood pressure testing and information about hypertension
  • Robo Bronco, a walking, talking high-tech robotic version of Buster Bronco
  • Sunseeker solar race car
  • Popcorn, face stickers, bean bag toss, frisbee

Registrations will continue after the Friday deadline, but those registering after May 8 will not be guaranteed a free T-shirt, box lunch or optional bus transportation from Kalamazoo.
