Business Career Day is Thursday

Sept. 25, 2009

KALAMAZOO--Nearly 100 organizations will arrive on the Western Michigan University campus for Business Career Day on Thursday, Oct. 1. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the East Ballroom of the Bernhard Center and is open to the university community, alumni and to the public.

Business Career Day, sponsored by Alpha Kappa Psi and the WMU Haworth College of Business, is designed for students to network with employer representatives and discuss internship and professional career opportunities.

Many employers will arrive Wednesday, Sept. 30, for the Food Marketing and ISM Career Nights to deliver informative presentations and network with students. In addition, more than two dozen employers have already made reservations to return Friday, Oct. 2, to conduct interviews with potential candidates.

Linda Ickes, director of the Haworth College of Business Career Center, commended the hard work of Business Career Day co-directors, Justin Grubka, an integrated supply management major, and Brandan McBride, an advertising and promotion major, in pulling off the event.

"They have worked all summer contacting employer representatives and have been involved in all the tasks necessary to ensure the success of the event," Ickes says.

"We are also thankful for the commitment our premier partners have made to WMU business students. In addition to attending Career Day, they partner with us in delivering career and professional development to our students, including everything from resume critiques to practice interviews and sponsorship of career-related events."

The 2009-10 premier partners are Amway, Coyote Logistics, Enterprise Rent-A-Car, Meijer, Target, Walmart and Whirlpool.

Candidates are asked to dress professionally and bring copies of their resumes. Details, including a list of participating employers, are available on WMU's Career Network Web site.

Students are encouraged to pick up a Business Career Day Booklet from 3020 Schneider Hall, home to the Career Center at the Haworth College of Business.
