Detroit-area lease tops board's agenda

Oct. 30, 2009

KALAMAZOO--A recommendation to approve a lease for an expanded Western Michigan University presence in the Detroit area and consideration of a new accelerated graduate program are among items to be considered by the WMU Board of Trustees when it meets on campus at 4 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2 in Rooms 157-159 of the Bernhard Center.

The new Detroit-area office will be used by WMU admissions staff as the University broadens its recruiting efforts on the east side of the state. The location selected and recommended for the board's approval is located on Woodward Avenue in Royal Oak, Mich.

In addition, the board will consider approval of a new accelerated master's degree program in the School of Communication. The program will give undergraduate students with senior status the option of taking selected graduate-level courses and have those courses count toward both undergraduate and graduate credit. The move will allow top students to reduce the time it takes to continue at WMU and earn a master's degree.

In addition, trustees also will consider reports on personnel changes and gifts and grants received by the University in recent months.
