Most offices closed Thanksgiving weekendNov. 17, 2009 KALAMAZOO--Except for essential and emergency services, Western Michigan University offices will be closed Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 26-29, for the U.S. Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Thanksgiving recess officially begins at noon Wednesday, Nov. 25, and there are no afternoon or evening classes Wednesday. WMU offices will remain open Wednesday afternoon. Classes resume at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30. Public events scheduled on campus during the holiday weekend include the Bronco volleyball game versus Valparaiso Saturday at University Arena, and Mannheim Steamroller in concert at 4:30 and 8 p.m. Saturday at Miller Auditorium. Listed below are Thanksgiving weekend hours for selected University offices and services. Students and the public are encouraged to call ahead to make sure that a particular office on campus is open. For emergencies only, contact WMU Public Safety at (269) 387-5555. Admissions office is closed Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 26-29. Bernhard Center and Bronco Mall close at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, and will remain closed Thursday through Saturday. Some Bronco Mall stores, including the computer lab, Subway, Taco Bell and Pizza Hut will be open reduced hours Sunday, Nov. 29. Campus computing The Help Desk closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, is closed Thursday through Saturday, and is open from noon to 10 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29. Bernhard Computing Center in the Bronco Mall closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, is closed Thursday through Saturday, and reopens at noon Sunday, Nov. 29. University Computing Center lab closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, and is closed Thursday and Friday. The lab is open from noon to 5 p.m. Saturday, and noon to 10 p.m. Sunday. Sindecuse Health Center, including the pharmacy, is closed Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 26-29. Medical emergencies should be referred to local hospitals or other health-care providers. Student Recreation Center closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25, is closed Thursday through Saturday, Nov. 26-28, and is open from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 29. The recreation center resumes normal hours Monday, Nov. 30, at 6 a.m. Unified Clinics is closed Thursday through Sunday, Nov. 26-29. Waldo Library closes at 5 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 25. The library is closed Thursday, open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and open from noon Sunday to 3 a.m. Monday. The library resumes normal hours at 8 a.m. Monday, Nov. 30. To reduce energy costs while the University is closed, heating and cooling systems in all office and classroom buildings controlled by the WMU Building Energy Management System will be in "holiday mode." Air handlers will not run during this time, unless a space is exempt from the program or the temperature in a particular space goes outside of the range of 60 to 85 degrees.
