Football Broncos break team GPA record

Jan. 25, 2010

KALAMAZOO--For the fourth straight year, the Western Michigan University football Broncos broke their own team grade-point-average record for the fall semester, carrying a mark of 2.92 to beat last year's all-time high of 2.84.

Under the direction of head coach Bill Cubit, a total of 61 players earned a GPA of 3.0 or better, with 29 posting at least a 3.5, and seven pulling in a perfect 4.0.

Among those at the head of the class were Academic All-Mid-American Conference honorees Tim Hiller, John Potter, Phil Swanson and Ben Armer. Hiller and Swanson, with GPAs of 4.0 and 3.89, respectively, were named Academic All-MAC for the third year in a row. Potter, 3.97, and Armer, 3.65, both were first-time honorees. With a total of four Academic All-MAC selections this year, WMU had the second-highest representation in the conference.
