'The Messenger' debuts at Little TheatreFeb. 5, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Kalamazoo Film Society presents "The Messenger," starring Ben Foster, Woody Harrelson, Samantha Morton and Jena Malone, Friday through Sunday, Feb. 12-14, in the Little Theatre at Western Michigan University. Show times are 7 and 9:30 p.m. Friday; 4:30, 7 and 9:30 p.m. Saturday; and 2:30, 5 and 7:15 p.m. Sunday. General admission is $5 and $3 for students with a valid ID. "The Messenger" is a powerful and tender story about a returning war hero who is assigned to the Army's casualty-notification service in his final months of active duty. As Staff Sgt. Will Montgomery (Ben Foster) struggles to adjust to life back in the States, he and fellow officer Tony Stone (Woody Harrelson) must carry the burden of bad news, delivering it to the heartbroken families of fallen soldiers. Things become even more complicated when Montgomery becomes emotionally attached to one of the widows. Directed by Oren Moverman, the 2009 film is shown in English and Spanish with English subtitles. It has a run time of 105 minutes, and is rated R for offensive language, sexual content and nudity.
