Jazz festival starts and ends in concertMarch 9, 2010 KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University will host a series of events Friday and Saturday, March 12-13, celebrating the local jazz scene. Friday, March 12 The weekend kicks off with a performance featuring New York tenor saxophone sensation Donny McCaslin. The Western Jazz Quartet will join him in concert at 8:15 p.m. Friday, March 12, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The program will feature several of McCaslin's original compositions as well as several jazz standards Tickets for the concert are $15 and $5 for students. Saturday, March 13 Next up is the 30th annual Western Invitational Jazz Festival Saturday, March 13, in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. McCaslin will be a guest artist and instructor at the daylong festival, which features educational and performance opportunities for hundreds of high school students from several states. The day's activities, which are free and open to the public, will include big band and combo performances beginning at 9 a.m. The festivities will culminate Saturday with a 7:30 p.m. concert in the Dalton Center Recital Hall. The show will feature McCaslin and the University Jazz Orchestra as well as the high school bands participating in this year's festival. General admission is $10.
