Administrator to chair state education group

April 27, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Dr. Dawn M. Gaymer, associate provost for Extended University Programs at Western Michigan University, has been named chair-elect of the Michigan Council for Continuing Higher Education.

CCHE is made up of the leading continuing education officers at Michigan's 15 public universities.

Gaymer is filling the chair-elect's unfinished term and will become chair in July. She serves on the Executive Board along with Dr. James L. Schultz, director of WMU-Grand Rapids, who is CCHE treasurer and WMU's institutional delegate to the organization.

As chair, Gaymer will oversee the CCHE's annual professional development day and work with the Presidents Council of State Universities of Michigan on policies that impact off-campus and continuing education in the state.

Gaymer came to WMU in 2009 and oversees the University's six regional sites around Michigan, which deliver primarily graduate and professional degree programs to some 1,700 students each semester.

The division she heads also encompasses WMU's rapidly growing online education programs as well as its conferencing services and General University Studies Program, a generalized degree-completion program for former WMU students.

Previously, Gaymer was at Eastern Michigan University, where served first as assistant dean for credit programs in the continuing education unit and then as assistant dean of graduate programs for the College of Business.

She also has worked as director of international admissions at the University of Toledo, manger of foreign student enrollment at EMU, a program coordinator at Golden Gate University and an admissions specialist at Brevard Community College.

Gaymer earned bachelor's and master's degrees from Golden Gate and a doctoral degree in educational leadership from EMU.
