May 6, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Students from Western Michigan University's Stand-Up Comedy Club have bested teams from Michigan State University and defending champion University of Minnesota to advance to the quarterfinal round in Rooftop Comedy's National College Comedy Competition.

During each round of the competition, individual collegiate comedians perform in comedy clubs throughout the country. Video clips of their performances are posted on the National College Comedy Competition website, and fans are encouraged to vote for their favorite comedians.

Eight teams remain from the original field of 32 schools. WMU's opponent in the next round is Xavier University. Other brackets feature Emerson versus Marymount Manhattan, Duke versus Florida, and Loyola Marymount versus UC Berkeley.

Members of the WMU team in the competition are junior Sohrab Forouzesh, junior Chris Raby, sophomore Alec Robbins and senior Trevor Smith.

Finalists in the "Funniest Four" win free trips to Colorado to perform at the prestigious Aspen Rooftop Comedy Festival. The college competition is presented by Turner Broadcasting. Learn more and follow the competition at rooftopcomedy.com/college.
