Student engineers place second in district tournament

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University's student chapter of the Institute of Transportation Engineers finished second in the ITE Great Lakes District Collegiate Traffic Bowl held April 22. The competition was a Jeopardy-style head-to-head tournament held during the Great Lakes District Regional ITE conference in Indianapolis.

  • Bradley Gerbasich of Kalamazoo, a senior who will graduate in December with a degree in civil engineering
  • Chelsea Griffith of Three Rivers, Mich., a senior who will graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Omar Kanaan of Portage, Mich., a senior who will graduate in December with a bachelor's degree in civil engineering
  • Daewoon Park of Ik-San, South Korea, a graduate student who is expected to receive his master's degree in civil engineering in December.

The faculty advisor and team organizer was Dr. Jun Oh, associate professor of civil and construction engineering.

This is the first year WMU participated in the event. The team competed against teams from the University of Dayton, Michigan State University and Purdue University.
