James Patrick Forrest

May 19, 2010

Dr. James "Jamie" Patrick Forrest, an associate professor of accountancy at Western Michigan University, died May 15 in Kalamazoo. He was 60.

Forrest served the University for 28 years, joining the Haworth College of Business faculty in 1982. Among his areas of expertise was forensic, or fraud, accounting.

A certified public accountant, Forrest also was involved in athletics. He served for many years on the WMU Athletic Board of Control, including several as chair beginning in 1998.

The board works closely with the University administration to set athletic budgets, support student-athletes, and monitor issues related to areas such as graduation rates, gender equity and NCAA eligibility standards.

Prior to coming to WMU, Forrest taught at the University of Kentucky and worked at Ernst & Young in Grand Rapids, Mich. He earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University and masters and doctoral degrees from WMU.

A private celebration of his life will be held at a later date. Memorial donations may be directed to the Michigan State Veterinary Clinic or Jacques Cousteau Society.
