Sheryl D. Gordon

Sheryl D. Gordon, a former part-time instructor at Western Michigan University, died June 9 in Kalamazoo. She was 49.

Gordon taught in WMU's Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies from 2001 to 2009 and helped coordinate the University's sports camp program for blind and visually impaired athletes.

She worked as an X-Ray Technician in Battle Creek for five years before losing her sight at age of 25. Gordon went on to work for the Michigan Commission for the Blind for 21 years, most recently as assistant west regional manager and acting regional manager.

Gordon was a member of the board for the Michigan Council of the Blind and Visually Impaired as well as its Kalamazoo chapter and served as president of the Downtown Kalamazoo Lions Club in 2001-02.
