Tuition tops Friday's board agenda

July 21, 2010

KALAMAZOO--The Western Michigan University Board of Trustees is expected to set tuition rates for the 2010-11 academic year when it meets Friday, July 23, at 11 a.m. in the West Ballroom of the Bernhard Center.

Recommendations for tuition rates for both the main campus and Extended University Programs are on the agenda along with a proposed 2010-11 General Fund University Budget. Also on the agenda are recommendations for both approving a name and setting rental rates for the new student apartment complex now under construction on the Western edge of the campus. That facility will open for fall 2011, but students may sign leases for the units beginning this fall.

In addition, trustees will consider a staff voluntary retirement incentive program being presented by the administration as well as an updated policy that can be used to determine residency for the purpose of admissions and assessing tuitions and fees. Trustees also are expected to act on a recommendation to adopt a University whistleblower policy that will allow WMU to follow best practices and meet federal guidelines on issues dealing with University property and financial resources.

A number of other items round out the lengthy agenda, including recommendations on academic program changes and property leases as well as reports covering gifts, grants and personnel changes.
