New digital signage to go up on campus

July 27, 2010

KALAMAZOO--Western Michigan University trustees authorized the administration to enter a land lease agreement with Adams Outdoor Advertising to upgrade a standard billboard along U.S. Route 131. For the past 10 years, this billboard has promoted the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences and the Business, Technology and Research Park.

The new agreement will allow for a new, larger, state-of-the-art electronic/digital board in approximately the same spot. The new board will have a total of 12 rotating messages, six messages displaying in each direction. WMU will have between three and 12 messages to use. Any unsold space will automatically be available for the University to promote its programs. WMU also will have approval rights on all advertisements and messages.

The new land lease agreement is for 10 years, with either party being able to cancel after five years. Adams Outdoor is responsible for removing the current billboard, erecting the new sign and providing maintenance.
