University Theatre performs dramatic season opener

KALAMAZOO--Accusations fly in Western Michigan University Theatre's season opener "In the Blood," running Sept. 23 through Oct. 3 in York Arena Theatre at the Gilmore Theatre Complex.

Pulitzer Prize-winner Suzan-Lori Parks exposes a poverty-stricken mother's battle to escape her sordid past in this modern retelling of Nathaniel Hawthorne's "The Scarlet Letter." This compelling drama explores the hand of fate and asks: Are we in charge of our own destiny, or is it all "in the blood?"

Cast and creative team

Mark Liermann, associate professor of theatre, directs the all-student cast, which includes: Xavier Bolden, Aubrey Hopkins, Carmen Molina, Asia May Robinson, Chadwick Sutton, Jon Williams, Chelsea Waddles and Chelsea Wolocko. The creative team includes WMU student Elli Green, stage manager.

Tickets

All seating for "In the Blood" at York Arena Theatre is general admission. Tickets are $20, $15 for senior citizens and WMU employees, and $5 for students. They are available by calling (269) 387-6222, online at wmutheatre.com, or by visiting the Gilmore Theatre Complex or Miller Auditorium ticket offices.
