Onyx Society golf outing to benefit WMU studentsSept. 13, 2010 KALAMAZOO--The deadline to register for an Onyx Society golf outing next month to raise scholarship funds for Western Michigan University students has been extended to Friday, Sept. 24. Scheduled for Friday, Oct. 1, the event will take place at the Thornapple Creek Golf Club, 6415 W. F Ave., Kalamazoo. Check-in will begin at 11:30 a.m. and the shotgun start is at 1 p.m.
The Onyx Society is a constituent organization of the WMU Alumni Association. The organization uses proceeds from its golf outing and Scholarship Ball to benefit the Onyx Scholarship Fund, which helps qualifying students continue their education at the University. The 2010 golf outing is an 18-hole stroke-play event costing $90 per person. The cost includes golf, range balls, cart and a boxed lunch. No refunds will be given after Sept. 22. Among the special activities planned this year are a hole-in-one contest and an auction that will feature items such as a flat panel TV, watch and painting by a WMU alumnus.
