Trustees approve 51 retirements

KALAMAZOO--The retirements of six faculty members and 45 staff members were approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees at its Sept. 23 meeting. Trustees also accepted one faculty resignation.

Faculty retirements

All of the faculty members who are retiring are doing so with emeritus status. Their names, positions, years of continuous service and effective dates of retirement are as follows.

  • Dr. Richard B. Hathaway, professor of mechanical and aeronautical engineering, 34 years, effective June 30, 2011
  • Harold L. Hladky, master faculty specialist, paper engineering, chemical engineering and imaging, 10 years, effective June 30, 2011
  • Dr. Paul L. Maier, professor of history, 51 years, effective May 3, 2011
  • Dr. Peter E. Parker, professor of paper engineering, chemical engineering and imaging, 14 years, effective May 3, 2011
  • Dr. Steven C. Rhodes, professor of communication, 36 years, effective July 5, 2011
  • Dr. Frank L. Severance, professor of electrical and computer engineering, 25 years, effective June 30, 2010
