Kevin J. O’DonnellDec. 9, 2010 Kevin J. O'Donnell, a former Western Michigan University staff member, died Dec. 5, in Kalamazoo. He was 58. O'Donnell was the lead skills training specialist in the Center for Disability Services. He joined WMU's staff in 1994 and retired in 2009 after 15 years of service to the University. The Center for Disability Services provides direct service to people with disabilities. It also provides accredited educational and clinical training to students in the allied health professions. The center is a jointly sponsored University-community agency. Its service offerings include physical therapy, occupational therapy, individual and group skill building through community inclusion activities, community living services, case management/support coordination, respite services, and day services to adults with Alzheimer's or dementia. O'Donnell was known around the Kalamazoo area for playing in many local bands, with his greatest accomplishment being part of Chester Classic. He also provided music at many nursing homes. Family members will receive visitors at 1 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, in the Life Story Funeral Home, Betzler-Kalamazoo, 6080 Stadium Drive. Services start at 2 p.m. in the funeral home and will be followed by a reception in the Life Story Center. Memorial donations may be directed to "Music with Kevin" c/o Beth O'Donnell, a fund to perpetuate O'Donnell's passion for providing live music at care facilities.
