WMU's EcoMug project was launched in fall 2009 to reduce campus waste and save money by minimizing the number of disposable cups used across campus. The reusable stainless-steel travel mug is given free of charge to all incoming first-year and transfer students at WMU. Those who use it receive special discounts at campus cafés and local businesses. The National Wildlife Federation recently lauded the project as a top contributor to campus environmental sustainability.
