Raising awareness about people with disabilities

KALAMAZOO--"Empowering Ability" is the topic of a free event from 6 to 9 p.m. on Tuesday, March 29, in the Bernhard Center Ballroom at Western Michigan University.

Photo of Johnnie Tuitel.Speaker Johnnie Tuitel will discuss how he overcame his own disability and became a leader in Greek life and student government at Hope College. He now tours the nation empowering people to use their abilities. His talk includes display boards about disabilities that effect college students available for viewing.

Snacks and entertainment will be available before the speech. After the talk, Disability Network of Southwest Michigan will facilitate small group discussions on disabilities.

The event is sponsored by Theta Rho chapter of Pi Kappa Phi, the Campus Activities Board and the Western Student Association. It is being held in conjunction with Pi Kappa Phi's involvement with the national organization, Push America, an advocacy group for people with disabilities.
