KALAMAZOO, Mich.--Western Michigan University has won its second national award this fall for its work in building a diverse campus community.

The Commitment to Diversity award for WMU was announced during the Oct. 3-5 Washington D.C. conference of Minority Access Inc. This is the second consecutive year WMU has been honored by the nonprofit organization during its annual Role Models Conference. Announcement of this year's awards was made during an Oct. 4 luncheon sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense.

Minority Access Inc. assists colleges and universities, the federal government and agencies of other governments and corporations of all kinds in implementing programs and providing services to recruit, and retain underserved and underrepresented populations.

The Minority Access award is the second such honor WMU has received this fall. In September, the University received a 2014 Higher Education Excellence in Diversity--HEED--award, marking the second consecutive year WMU has been honored with this national award by INSIGHT Into Diversity, the nation's oldest and largest publication that focuses on diversity in higher education.
