High school seniors invited to WMU open houses

Oct. 12, 2009

KALAMAZOO--High school seniors are invited to check out one of the nation's top-100 public universities during three open houses being held at Western Michigan University this fall.

Students are asked to pre-register online for the free Friday events, set for Oct. 16, Nov. 13 and Dec. 4 from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the Bernhard Center on WMU's main Kalamazoo campus. Participants will experience "what's behind the W" as they meet with faculty and staff members, tour campus, and see firsthand why WMU is the right place to attend college.

Those who have yet to apply to the University can receive an admission decision if they check the box for On-Site Admission when registering and bring the requested paperwork to the open house. Admission decisions will be provided during individual appointments that will be set up with an admissions counselor.

Open house schedule

Each open house will begin with registration at 8 a.m. A welcome by WMU President John M. Dunn and other officials will follow from 8:30 to 9 a.m. Informational presentations by academic colleges and administrative offices will start at 9 a.m., and the day will wrap up by 3 p.m.

Tours guided by current WMU students will be held at regular intervals throughout the day. The guides will escort open house participants to lunch in addition to showing them around the main campus, Student Recreation Center, and models of WMU's residence and dining halls.

Representatives from each of the University's seven academic colleges and key administrative offices will be on hand to provide information about such topics as academic offerings, financial aid, scholarships and living on campus. A resources fair will help familiarize participants with the Sindecuse Health Center as well as many specialized programs, including those that focus on study abroad, academic support, leadership, parents, disabled students, diversity and LBGT students.
