Thousands on campus for Homecoming, Family Weekend

KALAMAZOO--This week marks two of Western Michigan University's most festive three-day occasions--Homecoming and Family Weekend. This will be the second time the University's Homecoming and Family Weekend, set for Friday through Sunday, Oct. 1-3, have been combined to create a rich array of on-campus activities.
The 2010 Homecoming theme is "Unmasque your Bronco Spirit." The festivities actually began today, with the student-oriented Qdoba Homecoming Kickoff. Other free student events include the Western Games at 11 a.m. Friday at the pond followed by the Soapbox Derby at 2 p.m. on Gilkison Ave.
The highpoint of Homecoming will be the 2 p.m. football game Saturday, Oct. 2, against the University of Idaho.
Other Homecoming events of note are:
- The previously announced Distinguished Alumni Awards Dinner Friday, Oct. 1.
- A reunion for WMU's Bronson School of Nursing and alumni of the former Bronson Methodist Hospital School of Nursing Friday and Saturday, Oct. 1-2. For details, contact Amal Mansour at amalmansour6288@yahoo.com or (269) 323-7933.
- The Campus Classic 5K and 1K run/walk Saturday, Oct. 2, beginning on West Michigan Avenue near the Bernhard Center. Participants, volunteers and spectators are welcome. Online Registration ends at 11:59 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 30. On-site registrations runs from 7 to 8:30 a.m. No pets, please.
- A WMUsic Showcase Spectacular benefit concert featuring School of Music students, faculty and ensembles such as the marching band, symphony orchestra and Gold Company.
