Registration deadline for accounting conference approaching

KALAMAZOO--The deadline is approaching to register for an upcoming conference that will bring together accountants from across the region to hear about new financial reporting standards from the experts who are creating them.

The deadline to register for Beta Alpha Psi's International Financial Reporting Standards Conference is Wednesday, Oct. 12. The daylong conference runs from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 27, at the Western Michigan University Fetzer Center. The event will include keynote presentations by James Leisenring, senior advisor of the Financial Accounting Standards Board, who has served on the International Accounting Standards Board in London, as well as James Kroeker, chief accountant with the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The WMU Gamma Rho Chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, in conjunction with the WMU Haworth College of Business, is conference host. Beta Alpha Psi is an international honorary organization for financial information professionals. Participants can receive eight credit hours of continuing professional education recognized by the state of Michigan for attendance at the event.

Additional speakers at the event will include WMU faculty and other leaders in the accounting field.

The registration fee is $299 for professional accountants, and the event is free for students. More information is available at wmich.edu/business/ifrs.
