Ruthann Johnston

Ruthann Johnston, who retired after working 20 years in dining, custodial and logistical services for Western Michigan University, died Oct. 1 in Kalamazoo. She was 73.

A lifelong resident of the Kalamazoo area, she started at WMU in 1974 as a utility food worker in Goldsworth Valley I. She became a residence hall custodian in 1985 and then moved to work in the mail room for Logistical Services in 1992, retiring two years later.

Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 6, at Langeland Family Funeral Homes Portage Chapel, with burial following in Mount Ever-Rest Cemetery. Visitation is set for 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 5, at the Portage Chapel.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care of Southwest Michigan, the West Michigan Cancer Center or the Michigan Diabetes Association.
