New center to focus on educational leadership, policy

KALAMAZOO--A new center aimed at furthering educational leadership and policy initiatives was approved by the Western Michigan University Board of Trustees during its Dec. 8 meeting.

The Center for Educational Leadership and Policy will work to:

Housed in the Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology, the center is expected to officially open July 1, 2012.

It will be co-directed by that department's Dr. Jianping Shen, the John E. Sandberg Professor of Education, and Dr. Van E. Cooley, professor and chair. They have a track record of securing millions of dollars in external grants and of providing service at the national, state and local levels.

The Department of Educational Leadership, Research and Technology offers programs that blend theory and best practices to prepare students for current and future challenges and make them more competitive in the job market.
