Driver of Decision Making

Steven Ross is on the fast track at General Motors. Since starting as an intern in 2015, he has taken on increasing levels of responsibility and now serves in a leadership role as finance manager for the Corvette Assembly Plant in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Ross analyzes financial data to influence daily operational decisions while driving a cost-effective strategy for labor, production, indirect materials and more. He has also significantly contributed to product development, employment cost analysis, customer experience and supporting GM-UAW negotiations.

Ross has been repeatedly recognized for his ability to collaborate with others and achieve enterprise-wide results, while also thinking innovatively about the future. He notably received GM’s Pyramid Award for developing a dashboard that allowed his team members, all the way up to the CFO, to glean important insights regarding long-term financial plans. A firm believer in the power of mentorship, Ross co-leads the company’s finance intern committee and coordinates recruiting for Southeast Michigan.

First Job: “Several manufacturing plants where my dad was employed. I worked very physically taxing jobs and really learned to understand the manufacturing process. I also learned that I had many ideas on how to improve efficiency and make the plant run more effectively—I think this was my first glimpse into starting my career at GM.”
