Ribbon Cutting Ceremony

Thank you to all that attended our Open House celebration.

The ribbon cutting and Open House was held on Thursday, Sept. 4 and it was a huge success. Thank you to everyone that attended the celebration.

The complex

The Latitude 42 Pickleball Complex at West Hills features 13 dedicated indoor courts and one outdoor court facility. The construction of this 37,000-square-foot facility was largely made possible by a generous contribution from Ruth and Mike Stoddard.

Our Latitude 42 Pickleball Complex has convenient access to the existing West Hills Athletic Club building and amenities, including locker rooms, the pro shop, a fitness center, group fitness classes, indoor tennis courts, a kid's club, and personal training services for injury prevention, skill development and more.

Indirect lighting

Indirect lighting is featured at the Latitude 42 Pickleball Complex because it is the preferred method for illuminating pickleball courts, minimizing glare and ensuring an even light distribution throughout the court. This lighting method directs the light upward toward the ceiling, which then reflects it back down, creating a soft, uniform glow that improves visibility and reduces eye strain for Pickleball players.

Permanent nets

According to the ASBA (American Sports Builders Association) and USA Pickleball, for optimal play on competition-sized courts (34 'x64'), the recommended ceiling height at the net line should be 21' or higher.

  • Lower courts = 31 ft
  • Upper courts = 27 ft 6 in

The facility offers an integrated social space, restrooms, and a court-side viewing area.

West Hills offers a total 22 pickleball courts at our facility—one of the largest venues for pickleball in the area.

Sponsorship opportunity

West Hills Athletic Club is an auxiliary service of Western Michigan University. Therefore, the WMU general fund does not support it or receive gifts from the athletic department. The funding for the pickleball complex will come from gifts, sponsorships, and West Hills operational funds.

With your support, we will reduce overhead expenses and keep pricing affordable to all in the pickleball community. Gifts will also free up operational funds to continue upgrading the current facility.

Our facility is estimated to have 700 visitors a day or 4,900 a week. Here are a couple of ways to take advantage of that captive audience.
