M'Myia Hughes

2020 Esprit De Corps Award Recipient

M’Myia Hughes is the director of the TRiO Future Educators Success Program. She has worked in the TriO office since 2013 and was an advisor for CEHD prior to that. She holds both a bachelors and a masters degree from WMU.

Hughes assists students with navigating logistical tasks necessary to moving their academic work forward and provides them with the emotional support they need to persevere and accomplish their dreams. She never turns people away and always makes herself available to help students in need. Her warm personality permeates everything she does. Hughes is able to take students’ concerns and put their minds at ease and often goes out of her way for students because she truly cares about them and wants to see them succeed. She builds relationships with faculty so they can notify her when a student is struggling or doing exceptionally well so she can follow up with them. She manages to give all TRiO students the time and attention they need to flourish while still completing all the administrative tasks necessary to lead the TRiO program. As a leader, she empowers her staff and trusts them to be creative and successful in their endeavors and creates a welcoming environment for all.
