2021 Staff Excellence Award Recipient

Erica Martinez, Business Manager for the Dean’s Office in the College of Education and Human Development, played a pivotal role in shaping the Central Service Team in the wake of COVID-19. She went from overseeing one employee to overseeing a team of six that were responsible for the administrative tasks for the whole college.

Her caring and responsive leadership style was instrumental to streamlining processes in a way that allowed her staff to meet the needs of the college in an efficient and constructive way. Her strong communications skills have allowed her to actively listen and empower her staff and also represent their concerns to others in the college. She handled the changes and increased responsibilities of the past year with a level of grace and understanding that is inspiring. She has initiated efforts to improve purchasing procedures within the college, balance the budget, and has met everyday challenges all with the same constructive style. She provides unconditional support and encouragement to her team and always makes herself available to help others.

She serves as a committee member on the SCS Job Evaluation committee, is a member of the SRM Development Project Work Group: Training, Process Documentation and Policy, and leads work committed to inclusion and diversity.
