Bachelor of Musical Arts

The School of Music at Western Michigan University offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor of Musical Arts degree.

The BMA provides opportunities to gain knowledge about many different aspects of music while allowing flexibility to cultivate an area of expertise. Approximately half the coursework is in music, with the remaining half devoted to general education requirements, a minor in another field, and electives. This program is a great choice for students interested in earning a double major from another department.

Degree Requirements
The Bachelor of Musical Arts (BMA) degree program is designed to be as flexible as you are. The BMA requires a minimum of 94 credits, with 60% of coursework within the School of Music, and 40% in general studies and your selected minor or second major. School of Music coursework includes:
Private lessons on your instrument or voice part
Music theory, aural skills, and history
Multimedia arts technology classes
Composition and conducting classes
Performance electives
