

Supply chain management student wins scholarship
For the third year in a row, a WMU Haworth student was selected as a recipient of the Achieving Women’s Excellence in Supply Chain Operations, Management and Education (AWESOME) Excellence in Education Scholarship. Chelsea Prebil received the award as recognition for her achievements as a supply chain management major. The program awards 20 recipients each year, and Prebil joins four previous Western students as a member of this impressive group of young professionals.


Accounting student recognized with $5,000 scholarship
Accountancy student Aedan McCauley received the Michigan Accountancy Foundation Final Year Scholarship, a $5,000 scholarship awarded to students who are in their final year of studying accountancy at a Michigan college or university. McCauley is also pursuing a minor in music. He completed internships at Crowe LLP and PwC. Following graduation, McCauley intends to take the CPA exam and become fully certified before beginning a full-time role in the Grand Rapids area.




WMU food marketing program wins industry award
The food marketing program was recognized for industry exceptionalism by Progressive Grocer. The organization highlights outstanding grocers, suppliers, service providers and organizations that positively affect society through environmental, social and governance actions with their Impact Awards. Western’s food marketing program received the 2024 Impact Award for Educational Support and Learning Advancement. WMU is the first university to win this award.


WMU supply chain management once again named a top program
WMU Haworth’s supply chain management program was recognized by Gartner as a top program in the nation, coming in at No. 22. This marks 15 consecutive years that Western’s program has been on Gartner’s list of Top 25 Supply Chain Universities. The list recognizes higher education institutions that provide extraordinary skills to students through a relevant supply chain management curriculum and have an outstanding reputation with employers who hire supply chain graduates.




WMU accountancy students receive $15,000 scholarships
Accountancy students Mary Welk, Marcos Chavez-Cortez and Ebony Faye Simpson each received a competitive $15,000 scholarship from the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board for the 2024-25 academic year. The merit-based scholarship is intended to encourage accounting students to pursue careers in auditing. All three students used the award to fund their education and propel their career plans forward.


Sales students place first at National Sales Challenge
A team of sales students placed first overall at the National Sales Challenge hosted by the Russ Berrie Institute for Professional Sales at William Paterson University. Jack Tungate and McKenna Farrell led the team to victory, with Farrell placing first in sales challenge, first in sales role-play and first in speed selling and Tungate placing third in sales challenge and second in sales role-play. The team bested top sales students from 19 other universities.




WMU ranked by TIME as a ‘Best College for Future Leaders’
TIME has once again ranked Western in its list of colleges and universities that produce top leaders, citing WMU alumni among influential high achievers and noting the Haworth College of Business specifically. Analyzing a diverse sample of 4,000 of the most influential leaders in the United States, the publication identified top higher education institutions, with WMU in the top four universities in Michigan. The survey results are proof that Bronco alumni are making their marks in leadership roles.


WMU sales students thrive in the desert, winning the Desert Cup
WMU Haworth students triumphed in the desert, winning the Arizona Collegiate Sales Competition and bringing the Desert Cup back to WMU for the third time. Winning first place out of the 14 universities competing, the WMU team was made up of Joey Pisano, Ella Smith, Jordan Kana’an and Hope McHugh. Students competed in the marketing presentation and sales role-play categories, with all team members contributing to the win by earning points in events throughout the competition.
