Ceremony basics

Location: Miller Auditorium on WMU's campus

Regalia information

A cap and gown are required for participation in the commencement ceremony. Review regalia details to ensure you're dressed for the occasion and ready to walk across the stage looking and feeling your best!

Share a tribute!

Family and friends are invited to share in the celebration by submitting a short tribute video filled with encouragement for their graduate. Videos will be featured on the commencement website and selected tributes will be showcased during the ceremonies. The Fall commencement deadline for submissions is Monday, November 30th by 11:59 p.m. Follow these guidelines:

  • Keep videos to seven seconds (0.07) in length
  • Film in landscape orientation
  • Avoid background noise or music
  • Refrain from wearing branded clothing (WMU gear is encouraged!)

Commencement checklist

Select the regalia that corresponds to your degree level and place your order early. Be sure to carefully review ordering and delivery timelines to ensure your regalia arrives before commencement. You can always reach out to the WMU Bookstore if you have questions or need assistance.

Bachelor's and master's students are required to reserve a student ticket to participate in the ceremony and must bring a printed copy on the day of commencement. Be sure to claim your guest tickets and distribute them to your guests before the ceremony.

Plan to arrive at Shaw Theatre 45 minutes before your ceremony time. Graduates will gather there before entering Miller Auditorium for the commencement ceremony. To ensure a smooth check-in process, arrive in full regalia and have your printed student ticket readily available.
