Consumers Energy CEO Visits WMU to Explore Collaborative Opportunities

WMU welcomed Garrick Rochow, President and CEO of Consumers Energy, to campus last Friday for a strategic engagement session focused on innovation, sustainability, and future partnerships. Hosted by WMU’s Office of Government Relations and External Partnerships, the visit brought together university leadership, faculty, and students for a day of shared learning and exploration.

The visit featured a campus tour that included a stop at WMU’s Electrical Engineering facilities, where Professor Pablo Gomez showcased cutting-edge research initiatives aimed at addressing modern energy challenges. Rochow and his team were briefed on WMU’s technical capabilities and research strengths that align with Consumers Energy’s focus on clean energy, grid modernization, and talent development.

“This visit was a meaningful step toward deeper collaboration with one of Michigan’s most important energy partners,” said Lisa Garcia, Assistant Vice President for External Partnerships. “We’re grateful for Consumers Energy’s willingness to engage and envision new ways we can work together to support innovation, student success, and a more sustainable future.”

WMU extends its appreciation to all who helped make the engagement a success and looks forward to continued dialogue and partnership opportunities with Consumers Energy.
