A Call to Action: Poverty Reduction in Kalamazoo County

The University-Community Empowerment Center partnered with Western Michigan University’s Academy for Lifelong Learning to host A Call to Action: Poverty Reduction in Kalamazoo County seminar. It was a series of classes designed to help the public learn about the problems associated with poverty and to discover ways to alleviate it in southwest Michigan and to empower individuals and communities to be their own change agents. The five free classes featured experts addressing the following topics:
- Education
- Income security
- Affordable housing
- Mental and physical health
- Legal issues and criminal justice
