MLK Day Celebration focuses on standing against injustice

Western will commemorate Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 19, with events centered on the theme of standing against injustice. The day’s highlight is a keynote address by Dr. Cornel West, author, scholar and activist, at 6 p.m. in Miller Auditorium. This free event is sponsored by the Office of Diversity and Inclusion with WMU Athletics and the Seita Scholars Program.

Earlier in the day, the Lewis Walker Institute for the Study of Race and Ethnic Relations will host its annual MLK Day Teach-In beginning at 1 p.m. in Room 1910 of Sangren Hall and via livestream. The program includes an address by Dr. David Stovall of the University of Illinois Chicago, interactive workshops and a student panel.
