KALAMAZOO, Mich.—Western Michigan University is hosting a virtual commencement ceremony on May 1 to celebrate spring 2021 graduates. As the rescheduled in-person graduation continues to be delayed, we have also invited 2020 spring and summer graduates to participate in this virtual ceremony.

Participation instructions were sent to graduates via email last month. To be included in the ceremony, graduates must submit the following materials by Friday, March 19.

  • Individual photo
  • Name and phonetic spelling
  • Brief quote (optional)

Family and friends of the graduates are invited to send a short stand-up tribute video with a few words of encouragement and praise. Please limit videos to 15 seconds in length. The deadline to submit a tribute video is Friday, March 26. Due to the volume of graduating students, we may not be able to include every submission received in the virtual commencement.

The ceremony will be as close to a traditional commencement experience as possible. More information, including viewing times, will be announced soon. Regalia may be purchased from the WMU Bookstore. GPA honor cords are available upon request. Learn more at wmich.edu/commencement.
