Dr. Elizabeth Warburton Receives Fulbright Postdoctoral Fellowship to Israel

There she researched the relationship between parasites that have left eggs in the soil and earthworms that move those eggs through the soil. She initially became interested in parasitology through frequent visits to her mother’s family’s farm in Indiana and during a part-time job at a veterinary clinic near South Bend, Indiana. The vet clinic led her to take a course in parasitology at St. Mary’s and introduced her to a “whole new world.”

The funds also will help with costs associated with state teacher certification tests, as well as other expenses associated with higher education but not covered by the Kalamazoo Promise, such as books, fees, and transportation. Students who successfully complete the program will be guaranteed a job interview with KPS. If hired, the new teacher must commit to at least three years of teaching in KPS. “I got into bikes through my volunteer work with the Office of Sustainability two and a half years ago,” said Bere. “After six months of volunteering, I was hired for a student assistant job.” Bere took ENVS 1000 because he had Dr. Keele for environmental law and liked her. He also needed a minor and decided on the climate change studies minor.

I am still in touch with Lindsey and I thank her all the time for telling me that.” Miles earned the money for the trip by washing dishes in her dorm cafeteria (the worst job she said she ever had) and she also received a generous donation from the Chamber of Commerce in her hometown of Calumet City, Ill. The volunteer experience in Africa forced her to mature rapidly and dispelled the somewhat ivory tower view of anthropology and culture she had developed in the classroom before she planted her feet on the ground.
