Advertising and promotion students take first in national challenge

Part of the winning team with Dr. Atkin KALAMAZOO—A team of nine Western Michigan University advertising and promotion students have placed first in the EdVenture Partners’ Jobs for America’s Graduates Scholastic Achievement Award Challenge in Washington D.C. During the challenge, students were tasked with answering analytical questions from high-level executives regarding JAG’s brand positioning, communication strategies and other marketing tactics.

Disney internship program to recruit at WMU

While working in front-line roles at the theme parks and resorts, participants will network with leaders, learn transferable skills, gain real-world experience and be a part of a team of cast members from hundreds of job disciplines. Participants in the Disney College Program also custom design a learning curriculum that best suits their needs and interests, complete education courses and specialized learning activities, and can possibly earn college credit while doing so.

Gayle Strutz There was nothing in the world that Gayle Strutz, pictured here with her dog Taz, was more passionate about than her daughter, Toni Strutz. "I am an only child," shares Toni Strutz, "My mother didn't attend college and didn't enjoy her job. She always wanted to make sure that I had more opportunities and went further in life than she did." Her mother's dedication inspired Toni Strutz to work hard and achieve her goals.

Carlson, Hettinger to lead WMU board in 2013

Jennings hopes recipients of the scholarship will be most impacted by her mission of service to all mankind. "I believe," she says, "when we find someone with a basic need in life, as nurses, it's our job to assist that person the best way we know how. Assistance can come from doing research to find better drug protocols for diabetics to doing volunteer work in the community."
