Western's AFSCME Local 1668 is collecting donations for the Montgomery Essential Needs Project Bronco Pantry on Saturday, Oct. 4. The drive from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. will be at the Harding's Friendly Marketplace on West Main and Drake Road. We will be collecting all nonperishable foods, personal hygiene products and fresh produce for the Bronco Pantry.
WMU’s Sindecuse Health Center is offering seasonal influenza and COVID-19 immunizations to students, full- and part-time employees, retirees and other eligible individuals including dependents 12 and older of these groups. Vaccinations will be administered by appointment at the health center, and at one outreach clinic in November. A COVID-19 vaccination may be given with a flu shot.
Appointments may be made on the patient portal for one or both shots given together.
One on-campus drop-in clinic is scheduled to administer flu shots only on Tuesday, Nov. 4 at the Student Center from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. No appointment is needed for this event which is scheduled alongside the WMU Employee Benefits Expo.

On Sept. 24, Angie Moe, professor in the Department of Sociology and director of the WMU Therapy Dog Clinic, will talk about “Paws for Thought: Ethical Considerations of Therapy Dog Work” at 5:30 p.m. in Room 2209 of the Student Center accompanied by her dog Sunny. This talk will examine the ethical considerations inherent in the incorporation of therapy dogs, focusing on the welfare of both human recipients and canine participants. It is co-sponsored by the WMU Therapy Dog Clinic and The Resiliency Center for Families and Children in the College of Health and Human Services. For more information, visit the Center's website.
The Center for the Study of Ethics in Society is offering a book club on Toxic Communities: Environmental Racism, Industrial Pollution, and Residential Mobility by sociologist Dorceta Taylor. The author develops new theoretical understandings of environmental justice by looking at how vulnerable communities are disproportionately harmed by pollution and other environmental hazards.
