COVID-19 Financial Response

WMU will always be a special place, but like other institutions, it is not immune to the current economic challenges created by the COVID-19 pandemic. This site will document the University's financial picture and response during this period, serving as a repository of information for our audiences.

Bronco Resilience

The third decade of the 21st century is beginning in a way that no one expected. The world that we all knew changed in mere weeks, transforming every aspect of our lives. Due to the novel coronavirus outbreak, universities across the state and nation are dealing with significant financial fallout. And while this difficult but temporary reality has challenged the resolve of our Western Michigan University community, it has also illuminated a core fact: WMU is a strong institution that is replete with equally strong and resilient individuals.

As we all move forward in a time fraught with ambiguity, we do so by focusing on three guiding principles: We are student-focused, we will practice equitable decision-making and we will commit to candid and forthright communication. This is true when we manage issues related to COVID-19 or any other aspect of guiding our institution into the future.

The information presented here reflects these key values and how we are taking actions that preserve and strengthen our great institution and the people it serves. WMU will undoubtedly withstand the current disruption and never depart from its mission to provide students with a high-quality education and the confidence to succeed, regardless of obstacles that may arise.
