The Administrative Professional Association at Western Michigan University offers awards for outstanding job performance and for service to the association and scholarships to children of active members of the association.

Awards 

The deadline for nominations for the following awards is April 1st.

Outstanding New Professional Award

An award presented to an outstanding administrator or professional with five or fewer years of service to Western Michigan University. Selection is based on the following criteria:

  • Recognized excellence in overall job performance.
  • Outstanding service to their specific department or division.
  • Contributions to department or division (presentations, committee work, projects).
  • Willingness to assist beyond normal expectations.
  • Dedication to the profession.
  • Shows initiative or creativity.
  • Nominee does not have to be an active member of the association.

Tony Griffin Service Award

An award presented to an active member of the association. This award is named in memory of past president Tony Griffin. Selection will be based on the following criteria:

  • Active membership in the organization.
  • Outstanding service on an appointed committee or the Executive Board.
  • Significant contributions to the goals of the association.

Scholarship

The Administrative Professional Association scholarship provides financial assistance to undergraduate and graduate students attending WMU who are children of active and retired members of the association. The award is in the amount of $500. The recipient will be selected in a random drawing and announced at the membership meeting in January. The recipient will be notified shortly thereafter. The award will be posted to the recipient's student account in the following fall semester. The deadline for applying for the scholarship is Jan. 25.

Applicants shall meet the following criteria:

  • Child or stepchild of an active (i.e., dues-paying) or retiree (i.e., active at the time of retirement) member of APA
  • Sophomore status or above in the semester of the award (at least 26 hours earned WMU credits)
  • Full-time student at the time of the award
  • Minimum 2.5 WMU cumulative grade point average at the time of application
