Miller Auditorium Veranda Replacement

The veranda spanning the north façade of Miller Auditorium on WMU’s main campus is undergoing a complete replacement in the summer of 2023.  The current plaza has served the building well over many years, though is in need of a facelift for both functional and aesthetic reasons.  The current veranda is not accessible, so the new design adds long ramps as well as a grand stair facing fountain plaza.  New lighting, built-in benches and landscaping round out the scope of the project.

These enhancements will set the stage for the University to host outdoor events, allow patron access while at the theater and engage activities in Fountain Plaza.  A new central sidewalk from the grand stair leads directly to the fountain, facilitating pedestrian traffic within the new outdoor space.

WMU entered into a Design Build agreement with Beckering Construction, who is responsible for the design and construction of the veranda.  Construction is expected to begin in late June 2023 and be complete by mid-September.

SITE LOGISTICS PLAN

The construction area for the veranda replacement will block access between West Shaw Lane into Fountain Plaza, and the majority of the doors on the north side of Miller Auditorium will be blocked off within the construction fence.  Pedestrians will be routed around the construction zone to access the Gilmore Theater Complex.  View the site logistics plan.
